What is the Difference between an 'Activity", "Task" and "Milestone"?

An activity has a start date and/or an end date. A task does not have a set start/end date and can be done at any point.   A Milestone is used to mark specific points along a project timeline.  These points may signal anchors such as a project start and end date, a need for external review or input and budget checks, among others.
