The Project Metrics of the General Tab will tell you everything you need to know about the progress of your overall Project to date. Here is how SmartPM calculates all of these Metrics and what the numbers tell you:
Manpower Performance Index – This is the average performance index across the entire project.
- It is equal to the sum of all earned man hours identified for all complete or ongoing activities in the Project Schedule divided by the sum of all Actual Man Hours identified for all complete or ongoing Activities in the Project Schedule
Project Original Planned Man Hours – This is the sum of all Planned Man Hours recorded for all Activities entered into the entire Project
Project Current Estimated Man Hours – This is a projection of how many Man Hours will actually be expended over the duration of the Project based on historical data
- The calculation is Project Original Planned Man Hours divided by Manpower Performance Index
Project Percent Complete – The Total Percent Complete of the Project
- Calculate Current Earned Man Hours for each Activity in the Project and add them together
- Divide the Sum of all Current Earned Man Hours by the Project Original Planned Man Hours
Schedule Performance Index – This is a measure of Schedule efficiency on a project. In other words, it is a ratio between what has been done and what should have been done by the current day.
- The calculation is Actual Project Percent Complete divided by Planned Project Percent Complete
- Developer's Tip: A complete Baseline Schedule of all Activities must be set for this calculation to take place. If there are Project Schedule Activities not Date Stamped, a link that says “Must Set Dates” will appear in place of the calculated figure that directs you to the Date Stamp window
Average Activity Duration Variance – This figure shows you how the average Activity in the Schedule is performing
- Sum up all Duration Variance calculations of all Activities that have a Percent Complete greater than 0.
- Duration Variances are seen in the General window of the Activity Metrics tab
- Divide the Sum of All Duration Variances of all Activities that have a Percent Complete greater than 0 by the Total Number of Activities with Percent Complete greater than 0
- Developer's Tip: A complete Baseline Schedule of all Activities must be set for this calculation to take place. If there are Project Schedule Activities not Date Stamped, a link that says “Must Set Dates” will appear in place of the calculated figure that directs you to the Date Stamp window
Project Earned Man Hours – This shows you how many Man Hours should have been expended based on the Project’s Original Planned Man Hours and the current Project Percent Complete.
- The calculation is the Project’s Original Planned Man Hours multiplied by the current Project Percent Complete
Project Actual Man Hours – The is simply a sum of all Man Hours submitted via Field Updates currently
Cumulative Progress Chart – This chart displays Planned Progress and Actual Progress curves over the Original Duration of the Project for comparison
